Adolescent Counselling
The adolescent period in a person’s life is one of the most important and challenging phases while growing up. Therefore, we believe that this age group requires maximum attention and proper guidance.
Adolescence is seen as a transitionary phase in a developing person’s life where they experience several changes in their physical growth and social interactions. This phase is usually seen as a precursor of entering adulthood. Therefore, an adolescent is experiencing a lot of changes in their life which directly or indirectly (consciously or unconsciously) impacts their psychological well-being. In this stage, adolescents are trying to shape and form their identity in the world. They are also trying to create an identity for themselves in the social world. This age group experiences the first introduction to the world outside the comfort zone of their family. This friction with the outside world can create a lot of insecurities, feeling of deficiencies and perceived inadequacies. Therefore, the way adolescents navigate this journey is of crucial importance and requires proper guidance, support, and empathy. However, we find that very strong influence from the family and peers tends to breed indecisiveness, insecurity towards self and low self-esteem with adolescents. These challenges manifest in adolescents in different ways:
- Aggressive tendencies
- Behavioral problems
- Mood swings
- Emotional outbursts
- Substance use
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-image issues
- Concentration problems
- Overthinking
- Social isolation
- Bullying
If these challenges are not worked upon, they have far-reaching repercussions which extend to adulthood. Therefore, adolescents’ problems should be handled with utmost care and sensitivity. We at Faculty Minds understand this and provide empathetic and supportive care for our young clients to face these difficulties. Through counselling, our goal is to bring a sense of equilibrium in the social, emotional, and behavioural aspects of the client’s life. Not only do we work with the adolescent, but we also provide support to the family members to reinforce the therapy goals into their everyday life.
